UNAIDS Executive Director Report Recently Launched
CHISINAU, June 20, 2005 - Recently, the Report by the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, has been
developed. It was prepared in response to Economic and Social Council Resolution 2003/18 and includes the progress made in developing the coordinated response by the United Nations system to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The report provides an update of the status of the epidemic; summarizes steps taken by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS to promote the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS adopted by the special session of the United Nations General Assembly on HIV/AIDS in June 2001; summarizes other key developments in advancing a more effective and coordinated United Nations system response to the epidemic; and takes account of the decisions, recommendations and conclusions of the Programme Coordinating Board taken subsequent to the substantive session of the
Council in 2003.
The report concludes with a series of recommendations. The Economic and Social Council is invited to review the report and its
recommendations.
